Our History

From Dream to Farmstead!

Our journey started in Tolleson, Arizona; a suburb of Phoenix way back in 2007. Our home was on a large, 1/3 acre lot. I always dreamt of living in the country and raising my own livestock and food. At the time, a small puppy and a big garden in the city were the best we could do. With our 2 year old son excited to help, Tisha and I tilled and planted what became an amazing backyard garden. One neighbor had fruit trees, another had backyard chickens. Soon we developed a small co-op sharing and trading the food we each grew. It was the start of a bigger dream. However, after having two more amazing children and a move to a larger house on a much smaller lot, that dream seemed to stall. We tried a smaller garden in our new location but as soon as the plants would pop up, the heat and the acidic soil turned against them. We did grow some awesome grapes though – so not all was lost! Several years went by and, like most young families, life got busy. Gymnastics, Karate classes, soccer mom sports events and two parents climbing career and entrepreneur ladders didn’t leave a lot of time for dreaming. Eventually though, 2019 happened! Although we had always been “prepping”, the reality of Covid and the changes in society it brought opened our eyes. Our kids were getting older and we didn’t want to spend their teen years in the city. So we made a huge leap and, with all our faith in God, we sold our home, business, and most of our possessions and bought 40 acres in northern Arizona along with a travel trailer. This was our reawakening and the birth of the Buffalo Acres Farmstead!
